The Associate of Impact will serve as a critical team coordinator and right-hand support to the Senior Director of Impact. This role blends content publishing, operational coordination, and administrative support to ensure the seamless execution of strategy, storytelling, and cross-team collaboration. The Associate will work behind the scenes to bring clarity and consistency to the department’s daily operations while helping amplify Cities United’s mission across jurisdictions and the national field. This is a 100% remote position with access to dedicated office space located in Louisville, KY, and Washington, DC. Travel required 6+ times a year. This position reports to the Senior Director of Impact.

About the Role

This position reports to the Senior Director of Impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, format, and edit internal and external documents, including briefs, memos, strategy decks, and reports.
  • Coordinate content publishing across CU platforms, ensuring story banks, toolkits, and impact products are timely and aligned.
  • Manage calendars, team operations, and deadlines for the Department of Impact.
  • Support production of internal reports, dashboards, and presentations.
  • Track action items, outcomes, and team progress using shared project management tools.
  • Help maintain digital asset libraries and shared team folders.
  • Provide coordination support across departments to ensure timely collaboration and content delivery.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Will primarily interact with the Executive Suite, Deputy of Impact, Department of Impact Team, Partners, and Other Team Members. Will lead the Narrative Change team: Sr. Associates and Associates.

‍PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to work for extended periods of time from the laptop and cellular phone. Must be able to lift 30 to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a 100% remote position with access to dedicated office space located in Louisville, KY, and Washington, DC.  Travel required 6+ times a year.

Qualifications

Required
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python, Java, or Go
  • Experience with distributed systems and microservices
  • Solid understanding of database design and optimization
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Preferred
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerization
  • Background in machine learning or data engineering
  • Open source contributions
  • Experience leading technical projects
